For decades we have been using a relational model for data storage. However since most modern application logic is modelled on an Object Oriented Model the border between the logic and data storage is a bit of a difficult fit. The use of Entity Frameworks help bridge the gap but we still need the help of a query language like SQL. In the last few years we have seen the rise of NOSQL databases which appear to be reaching another level of maturity, and with . These databases are boasting better performance, better capacity and better scalability than the traditional RDBMS.
